so dont ask me how this happened.. but it did..

rochester qjet.. so i bent the right needle in my carb while it was in the carb..

so is it safe to assume that this would likely result in serious damage to the needle seat and require a rebuild?

There is only one needle for the float.
By needle do you mean the metering rod?
The rest of the carb may be ok, it depends on how it got damaged. If it was a little rough handleing there may not be any other damage. Just stick another rod in and see how it runs. The rods are specific to the carb so youll need the carb numbers to get the right one.
Now if you drove the rod in with a hammer you may have other issues...:$

Re: bent carb needle.. while in carb..

thanks for the response.. it was the right idle mixture needle..

short story. had the idle screw adjusting tool hooked up to the needle and under the therm housing hose which was not attached to the intake yet.. well i went ahead and tightened it down and it put so much pressure on the adjusting tool that it bent the idle mixture needle.. while the carb was attached to the intake..

Probubly just bent the stem behind the threads on the outside. The needle should be fine.
See if you can back it out and replace it. Them should all be the same.
