Have an occasional belt squeal........thought it was due to a coolant leak.

Tonight I noticed the voltage didn't climb to the charging level right away, usually goes to ~14V as soon as the engine hits 1000RPM.......tonight it sat at ~1500RPM @ 12v for a few seconds then climbed to 14V. When it did climb.........the belt squealed............wondering if this is indicating a future problem with the alternator.

Thinking of removing when I pull the boat for the winter in a few weeks.

Probably a bad or loose belt. It may have a glaze on it causing it to slip also. I would blame the belt first as it is the easiest and cheapest, plus it cant hurt. if you replace it and it doesnt help then save it for a spare and go to the alt next.

Try replacing it with a slightly wider metric style. Sounds like it`s riding too deep in the pully groove and slipping. You yank it too tight and you`ll be replacing the water pump and power steering pump .

Thanks.......I'm pretty sure it's not loose, need to inspect the belt.

Only a few more weeks left anyway, usually pull the boat by mid-November.
