bellows question?

i hear you can sink if one of the bellows has a leak or slit in it, was that the top bellow or the bottom bellow? IM still going to search the forums for the threads on bellows?

The only bellows that will cause you to take on enough water to sink in a short time would be the shift cable boot as it allows water direct acces to the bilge.<br />The drive bellows will allow water to rust the u-joints and possibly allow water into the lower unit,the exhaust bellows won't allow water into the bilge area either just make the exhaust louder.

No, the exhaust bellows is the lower one. The u-joint bellows is the upper one.

As witnessed a couple of years ago, a defective U-joint bellows can also sink your boat, at least on the older models, as there is a weep hole about 1/4" dia above the gimbal bearing. Might take a little time, but will sink you nonetheless.

thanks because i have found a little slit in the u joints bellow, great, now i guess i have to replace it, maybe even the Ujoint too?. How can I check it out without tearing it down to see if its still ok. I know I wasnt taking water in the first few times i had her out, Nowq whats this one gonna cost me?<br /><br /><br />thanks<br /><br />86bayliner
