Hello- Looking for some feedback or comments on 18'-20' Bell Boy boats made around '78-80. Were these well made boats? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

That 'lapstrake' look is functional and makes the sides of hull stronger than most boats of that era.

Thanks magster65. I hadn't seen many with the lapstrake and wondered about it. Anyone else have any Bell Boy comments?

I owned a 1980's, (I think), 18 ft, and I currently have a friend who has a 21 ft. They are popular here in Washington as they were mfg in Tacoma,WA for a lot of years before going out of business. They are a very well built boat and there are hundreds still on the water around here. They came w/I/O and outboard engines. Stay away form the old OMC's because of the steering.

I have a 80s something Bell Boy, it has a 140 hp gm engine and a cobra 400 omc outdrive. I too have been looking for info, I have just rebuilt the engine and changed the rubber boot at the stern (be sure to check yours, I didnt find the rot at first). What steering problems? I have yet to put mine in water but am looking forward to it.

It sounds like your outdrive has been replaced. The older boats came with a white OMC outdrive with an external steering rod. It liked to corrode and stick.
