When I was young, I thought I could do anything. While Fishing in a pond, I saw a bee nest with at least a million bees. I paddled the boat over to the nest, knowing I could paddle away faster than bees can fly. I hit the bees nest with the paddle. As I paddled away getting eaten by bees, I thought, that was really stupid.

While you may not have out ran the bees, I bet you did paddle faster than you thought you could. :D

jul -<br /><br />A friend just asked me if I could come up to her house with my bow and shoot a couple of wasp nests out of the tree over the deck, because they are too high up to get with the spray.<br /><br />Should I do it? <br /><br />I figure you have experience with this kinda thing :D :D :D , and could offer the best advice.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Matt M

Re: Bees and Fishing

One summer I had a dangerous honey hive to remove from a tree at an apartment complex. I hired a professional beekeeper who got out a garden hose and started to spray a fine mist of water all over and around the hive to cool the bees down. The bees immediately quit swarming and bunched together on the hive and surrounding limb to keep the queen warm. He then sawed the limb off and took the bees and hive home with him in his truck with the air conditioning going full blast. He said you should never kill honey bees but just transplant them to another place. They ended up in a fruit orchard with commercial honey hives.

I can see the headline now...."Man dies in auto accident after being swarmed by bees while transporting hive in his vehicle"<br /><br />Not sure if the guy was brilliant or crazy!<br /><br />Good story.<br /><br />Cheers.

my mom and step dad used to have many hives of honey bees. they would transport them in the back of the truck (with a camper shell) but there wasn't a window on the front. It was open into the cab of the truck. They would be going down the road, bee's all in the truck. Bout had a guy on a motorcyle tip over at a redlight when he saw bees all on the side windows of the cab, my mom and step-dad just sitting in the truck waiting for the light to turn green.<br /><br />I never did develop enough man-hood to help move the hives! :D

Re: Bees and Fishing

bees are a drag. i can still remember. it's been 30 years since i encountered a nest of them on dad's pontoon boat. it was a big home made (by my grandad) pontoon, pulled up on the beach sittin on planks. it had a rail and a stearing box to which the stearing wheel was attached. for some reason, we always removed the steering wheel for winterizing. so that next summer 30 years ago, i was maybe 16, putting the stearing wheel back on the pontoon boat. the bees were in the steering box unbeknownst to me, untill they were onto me that is. dad said it was pretty funny to see me sceam, then do the high jump over the rail on the pontoon to get away. but i didn't jump high enough and caught my foot on the rail. just like a mouse trap, down onto the beach head first i went, which was at least 8' below. don't know whether the bees, or the fall or the embaressment of falling on my head was worse. but i still remember it like it was yesterday......we had serveral encounters with bees at dad's cabin, most of them undesireable....
