I'm preparing for a fishing trip, and need some advice. After a 20 mile trip, the bearings don't seem too hot. The hub is not too hot to touch, but it is very warm. Is this a problem? How warm should they get?

I have something like bearing-buddies (not the same thing), but they sling grease all over the wheel. Any ideas as to how I can stop this? Thanks much for the advice.

Re: Bearings

You have grease escaping which is reducing the grease on the bearings.

Differant size wheels also have a significant effect on heat. Small wheels must turn faster than larger diameter ones. Small ones heat up faster.

Bite the bullet and get some real bearing buddies which are spring loaded. Repach the wheels and pre-load the bearing buddies so the springs are tensioned.

Carry a small size grease gun with you and give the bearings a shot or two as needed.

Bob
