Can I figure out my bearing size from the size of my bearing buddies? My bearing buddies are 1.980". My trailer is a single axle setup to tow a small aluminum boat. This would be helpful for me since I want to pick up some bearings before I pick up my trailer...

thanks

Re: bearing size

Just go to any West Marine, Boaters World, any boat/trailer place, with the old bearing or at least the number off it. There SHOULD be just a standard size for the small trailers, but one never knows. The bearing buddies come in two sizes I think, and that is just the I.D. of the hub, not the bearing. Hope this helps.

No, you need the numbers stamped on the bearings or the diameter of the spindle. Some spindles are tapered so a set of bearings has two sizes.

Ayuh,.... I Totally Agree,......
Ya Gotta take it Apart to See which bearings you need........
Once the bearings are "In Hand", about Any Autoparts store can sell you New 1s.........

For That Matter,.. Why/How do you know you even Need New Bearings......
If they haven't Rusted,.. Usually a Good Cleaning,+ Repacking will fix'm right up.......

Re: bearing size

If you truly need new bearings and can't find a number stamped on the back of the carrier, then take them to a good auto parts store, most will be able to measure them ( mic them) and be able to reference them for a part number, I had to do this some time ago for a Shoreline trailer I had for bearings and grease seals.

Re: bearing size

I bought the trailer used, and the seals are gone. Since I don't know the history of the bearings, I figure I might as well start fresh. It looks like I am going to have to take them out to find out what size. Does anyone have any recommendations on a solvent I can use to clean out the old grease from the hubs?

Thanks...
