What parts do I need to rebuild the hubs for my trailer? I know I need the bearings and the rear seals, what else should I be getting.

Are the bearing races usually removeable??

It is an 87 ez loader single axle with surge brakes. Any help would be great..

Re: Bearing replacement question

Yes the races are replacable and they should be replaced. Any time you replace the bearings you should replace the races too. Just use a brass punch and a hammer to remove and replace them.

To remove the race, remove the hub from the axle and then clean out any old grease. You should see the race on the inner part of the hub. You will see a lip on the race that you will need to tap on it to remove it from the hub. To do so hold the hub as if you had just removed it from the axle this is the outer side of the hub. You are going to tap the race out from the outer side towards the inner side. To do so secure the hub in a vice or something like that and begin taping on the race. I usually tap a few times in one spot and then start to work my way around the race. If you only hit in on spot it tends to bind up and is harder to remove. To replace it do the same tap the new one back in place. Pay attention to the direction of the bevel on the race and make sure you put it in the same way you removed the old one. Also I highly recommend you use a brass punch to put it back in so that you don’t leave a sharp burr on the edge.

Re: Bearing replacement question

Just a small item, but I always try to make sue to use new cotter pins. I don't want something to come apart due to an old brittle one breaking. If you don't have them and your trailer can use them, now would be a good time to install some bearing buddies.
