Hey crew,

I am replacing all the seals in the outdrive for my alpha 1 gen 2. I am reusing the old bearing its in descent shape. I have a new nut and preload washer. I have seen people using a rolling torque wrench to set the preload but ive also seen people just use a regular torque wrench. Am i able to just use a regular torque wrench and if so what is the preload.

Thanks!

You need a dial type in-lbs wrench. The specs are different depending on new vs used bearings, somewhere about 5 in lbs but idk off the top of my head (it's in the manual). Also I think @achris has a video

Is it necessary to use a new nut when doing the preload or can the old nut be used when replacing the seals?

3-7 lb/in rolling torque. Must be measured with a dial lb/in torque wrench. This is the method for all gen 2 alpha drives.

The 70 lb/ft torque on the nut is only for earlier model alpha style drives with the proper spacer between the bearings
