Just curious, as I only dunk my trailer 6-8 times per year. I inspect my bearings and grease periodically, and everything looks fine. I keep my boat on the water and only trailer a couple of times per year. Do I need to change the grease and repack bearings after a certain amount of time regardless of condition or only when it appears to have water in it or worn out. I've had the boat about four years now (18 footer with a single axle trailer) and so far haven't changed or repacked cause it still looks good. Am I asking for trouble? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Re: Bearing Grease

I do my trailer bearings once a year wether it needs it or not. zgives me a chance to look at the springs ( still rusty as hell) the spring bolts the spring hangars and I also replace the hub seals. Better to do a little preventative maintenance in my garage than to be cussing and spitting mad on the side of the road at 1 am with no extra hub or seals. because i seized a hub

Re: Bearing Grease

i just spend $25 a year and replace mine, whether they need it or not. i do this the week before i take the 400 mile one way trip to the Fl Keys. had an incident a couple of years ago, where the wheel came of with only a couple of second notice, i was doing 65, when it started to roar, came of before i could get to the side of the interstate. had to put a totally new running gear under the trailer, having the boat towed, for the sceen, to the storage yard, 7pm no one open to work on it, then towing to the trailer shop, overnite in the motel, this little incident cost me $1000 total. and i would have been in the water in the Keys, instead of sitting in a trailer shop.
