'89 40 hp Evinrude with a previously replaced lower unit housing. ( wondering if someone ever manufactured aftermarket housings)

Does anyone see a problem with using a slightly thicker O-ring to affect a seal issue with a propshaft bearing carrier?

I have a lower that kept leaking around a perfectly clean and good condition bearing carrier. Found no visible damage to housing. Can think of no accurate way to measure "out of round" of inside diameter of housing (and no listed tolerances).

I found an O-ring that was a little thicker than the OEM replacement, installed it, lower now holds pressure and vaccum. Can anyone forsee an issue? O-ring is only a few thousandths thicker but seems to have solved the problem.

It seals, holds vacuum and pressure, you are OK.

Most likely if the OEM parts do not repair the case there is a problem with an out of round case or carrier. I wouldn't worry if your repair fixed the problem though.
