Re: bearing buddies

I always pack the bearings as part of spring maintenance, RJF.

Then I add a shot or two of grease to the buddies after I reinstall them. Just enough to compress the spring a bit and put positive pressure in the hub.

Bearing Buddies are ONLY for holding Positive Pressure in the Grease Cavity..........

NOT Packing the Bearings........

Re: bearing buddies

I just pulled a set of hubs of an old trailer I am refurbishing. It had bearing buddies. The outer bearings where great. The inner bearings were pure rust. I needed a reverse hammer to get them off. The bearing buddies as stated above only keep positive pressure inside the hub so water shouldn't leak in. But the bearings still need to be packed and checked annually. If the rear seal goes out, water is coming in and bearing buddies wont help.
