OK... When I use the button to disengage and start the boat using the throttle, it moves fine! When I disconnect the throttle cable from the motor(where it engages the outdrive), It will move back and forth.
Now, While disconnected at motor, I can NOT hold it still when someone moves the throttle. SO why, when hooked up, will it not move???
The outdrive mechanism, will click back and forth when doing it by hand, but with the cable attached, it seems to be binding... It just does not seem to make sense?!?

Please help, I am dumbfounded...
Thanks all, Bo

Does your carb throttle advance by hand easily when the cable is disconnected?

One more note - you might want to keep the font at the default size. It kinda jumps out at ya. ;)

Sorry about the font!
Do you mean the outdrive cable disconnected, and the throttle cable STILL connected to the throttle? And do you mean moves by hand back at the carb?
Thanks, Bo

The THROTTLE cable & the SHIFT cable are two different things......
How about stating what the problem is?......:)

It is a 1995 mercruiser 4.3 with a alpha 1 outdrive.

Actually I missed the point of you being able to move the shifter when you put it into the throttle only position, so that rules out the carb being an issue. (I was thinkng it may be seized up).

When you say...
The outdrive mechanism, will click back and forth when doing it by hand, but with the cable attached, it seems to be binding...

What do you mean by that? As asked above, what drive are we talking about?

I see we were typing at the same time. ;)

When you disconnect the lower shift cable - that leads to the outdrive - can you push and pull the cable to get the outdrive into gear? And does it seem smooth and easy to move?

Where the cable connects to the thing, it is at rest in the middle position, and it either moves forward or backward. With the cable attached, it does not move, but I can move(click) it back and forth by hand when the cable is not attached... Does that make sense?

I believe the "thing" you are clicking back and forth is the shift interupt switch. That doesn't make the outdrive go in and out of gear. Its operation is important but not related to your issue.

Disconnect the lower shift cable from the linkage & see what happens when you shift not using the throttle only button & report back.....;)

If you are "manually shifting her" by "clicking the thing back and forth" then, yep, it's going to stall. What are you doing by "manually shifting her?"
