I can see by the post that there are a lot of people who do not like the Bayliner Line.

I am looking at purchasing a Bayliner boat and need some honest answers.

It is a 1999 Bayliner Rendezous Deck boat powered by a 1999 Mercury 150 outboard. They boat and motor look to be in very good shape. I have owned 2 Bayliners in the past and have been satisifed with them, but have been out of boating for 10 years.

Boat will be used on inland lakes for days trips with family, skiing, cruising etc.

Have not been able to find much on this patricular boat. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Bayliner Rendezvous

bks, People do tend to bash the Bayliner brand. Of course some folks bash a Chevy. I think of the difference between a SeaRay and a Bayliner as similar to the difference between a Buick and a Chevy. Same manufacturer, same chassis and maybe a smaller engine, different interior, appointments, trim and price.

SeaRay boats have more SS bowrails, teak and fancy seats, dashboards and rugs(price difference is also big). I believe the differences in construction to be minimal, since they both need the same degree of safety, or the lawyers will drag the parent company into court.

Re: Bayliner Rendezvous

I have a 96 23 ft Bayliner Rendesvouz I bought used 2 years ago. The orig owner was the meticulous type. The cushions and hull look as though the boat is 1 yr old instead of 10 yr.
If it has been well cared for, a Bayliner Rendesvouz will give u many years of enjoyment.
Bayliner Rendesvouz are relatively popular at my home lake (LAke of the Ozarks). See one in a dock at practically ever other cove.
Ignore the Bayliner Bashers and buy it if it checks out on careful inspection8)

Re: Bayliner Rendezvous

Is it a Mercury 150 OB or a Force by mercury OB? If it is the force, I would stay away.

Don't want ot start that conflict, but.. I owned one without any serious problems, but it was not as powerfull, was noisy and smokey. I just wouldn't bother with another one..

I don't know much about the Rendezvous. But I have owned 2 Bayliners & can't complain about either one. Some people say that in the mid to late 80's they had some quailty control issues & that's how they got the bad rep. The comparison to car makes is right on. A Bayliner is like a Chevy as a Sea Ray is Like a Cadillac. For the money in my opinion you can beat a Bayliner, I got alot more boat for less money. Brunswick owns Bayliner & Sea Ray along with a bunch of other boat makes, so the production methods & engineering have to be somewhat similar. Here's a link to a Bayliner discussion forum I'm sure you'd get alot more input there.

Re: Bayliner Rendezvous

I sold Bayliners, maxum and Sea Ray. Same molds, same tooling, same engines, except that Bayliner used the Force line for a while(Force was just last year's Mercury). If you check it out thoroughly and are happy with it, buy it. You wouldn't buy a car without a test drive, right? No purchase without a sea trial!!!
