I have just bought a 1986 Bayliner 2850 Contessa Command Bridge and the boat is seriously overproped. It's max rpm is 3000 at wot unloaded and should be 4000 - 4400. The owner says the prop is not original and he does not know what size it is other than the marking 198311 on it. The "original owners manual" states that this single engine boat should have a 12 X 19 L prop. All other models have 15 inch props.
The hin is BLZA47CMI586 and the "single" drive is a Volvo, AQ260A/290 a 5.7 260hp with the 290 sterndrive. I will have limited amount of time when I haul the boat and I would like to have and original prop to install on it. I would appreciate any recommendations on what the size should be and where to find one. I have searched extensively for the 12 X 19 L and can't find it.

Trim the leg up and you can change that prop. with the boat still in the water. Take it to a prop guy with your mph vs. rpms and he'll tell you what you need.

Search for Bayliner owners club, if you cant find it George at www.boatered.com. A good group with plenty of information about Bayliners.

Re: Bayliner factory installed prop size?

I was given an 800 number for Bayliner and from the HIN they gave me the original prop size. It is supposed to be a 15 X 17 L. The owners manual is misprinted.
Thanks for the help.
