We have a 1985 Bayliner Capri with an AQ125/270 Volvo.

My question may be more appropriate else where, but I will try here first.

I would like to add some auxillary power to my boat for emergency use only. I thought about a 9.5 honda four cycle OB or maybe a 70# thrust Minn-Kotta. Not sure either of these would work but would like some ideas or pics or help.

What would be the best and most economical way to do this. And what about mounting? Where and how?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Michael Sherick

Well I don't think a electric trolling motor is a safe bet if you have a ways to get back. The Honda will be fine but some things to consider would be ,make sure you get a heavy duty o/b bracket, most 4 stk. o/bs are quite heavy and a standard bracket may bend or break in rough seas. Also make sure you put a solid backing plate inside the boat where you mount the bracket,at least 1/2" plywood or better yet a aluminum plate. One more thing would be to run it off its own fuel supply in case you have a main tank problem and it should be a manual start if your batteries are dead.
