Got a mystery here. Bought a Bayliner 1950 Eagle with a 140 Mercruiser, VIN BLBA69EA1179. It sold to me as a 1979, yet NADA says Bayliner never made the Eagle in 1979 - or 1980. It shows up in 1981 but not with my Mercruiser 140. Can someone tell me what year this boat is? Also want to go to a stainless prop. This will occasionally pull a 200 lb skier or a tube but mostly it will be used as a fishing/pleasure cruiser. I want more top end speed than I want a super hole shot. Right now the motor turns 4200 rpm at WOT. Can't decipher the numbers on the current aluminum prop. Any recomendations?

Hey Dean....<br /><br />I have a 140 Mercrusier 3.0 L/181 cid GM w/ Roch 2bbl...<br /><br />I have checked my manual & WOT should be between 4200-4600 RPM for my models listed so I do not think yours is any different...<br /><br />I would suspect that you have between a 17-19 pitch prop... pull that monster off & look all over for some numbers... as they are there somewhere!!!<br /><br />I hope this helps.....<br /><br /><br /><br />------------------<br />"Keep it between the Bouys & Good Luck"<br /><br />fone_man

VIN number on your boat is not going to do us any good because it is a Bayliner VIN # & not Merc #....<br /><br />Plus I think someone retrofitted the Merc in you Bayliner...<br /><br />Merc made a 140 / 4 cyl 3.0/181 CID from 1968 - 1986<br /><br />Merc made a 140 / 6 cyl in 1963<br /><br />Follow this info below on locating the correct numbers for ID:<br /><br />Engine Serial Number Code: <br /><br />The engine serial number and model designation is stamped on a plate mounted on the righthand side rear side of the engine block above the starter motor or located on a decal on the engine. If plate or decal is missing, you can determine model by checking the last 2 letters of engine code stamped on the front of cylinder block. This code is found on all factory engines and all replacement partial assemblies. <br /><br />The number is found on the starboard side near distributor. This information indicates if there are unique parts or if internal changes have been made during the model year. It is important when ordering replacement parts for the engine. <br /><br />...Once you have located this info, please post & I will try to help you.<br /><br />------------------<br />"Keep it between the Bouys & Good Luck"<br /><br />fone_man

Re: Bayliner 1950 Eagle - year? prop?

The Mercury Marine sticker that gives the size, etc. has a serial number of 5437929. To the left of that is a smaller sticker that says "Transom Plate" with a number of 5614908. I removed some paint from the prop and found the following numbers: 1683, 2405, and ??79374A 4 19P. That last one is incomplete but I assume the pitch is 19 from the "19P". Should I stay with that pitch in a stainless and look at stuff like cupping?

My listing shows Merc 140 4 cyl 181 CID 3.0L<br />5157669-6237340 1979-1982...<br /><br />That is far as I can narrow it down now... but I will keep trying...<br /><br />------------------<br />"Keep it between the Bouys & Good Luck"<br /><br />fone_man

Thanks for the help. Anybody have a phone number for Bayliner? Are they the only ones who can tell me what year the boat is?
