Battery wiring - 12/24 V

I got a great deal on a Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor. It's 24V and 80lb thrust. The boat is set up with 2 batteries linked through a battery switch (Perko) and both are 12V and I switch between. The question is (diagram shown) can I pull 24v AND 12V by wiring as shown? Should I? Drawbacks? Should I just get 2 more batteries (a lot more weight). Any other suggestions?

Nope,.... That's still 12 volts,.... The trollin' motor ground would go on the other battery to make 24 volts,...

Tapping 12 volts off of the 24 stack is valid and doable. But it may be troublesome.

The 12 volt battery is serving double duty as the house battery.
If it is also the starting battery it will be OK as long as it is over-sized for the engine.
The 12 volt battery is going to go dead before the other one and risks being fatally discharged.
If the engine was supposed to be started from that battery, you may have a long day on the water.

If it attached to the engines alternator, it will be partially charged on the way home, the other one will not!

You may only need ONE more battery for a total of three.
One Start/Multi-Use battery as the Start/House battery.
And Two Matched, Deep Cycles Batteries in series for the trolling motor.

Yeah... those were concerns as well which is why I wanted to come here and pick the minds of the experts. Granted I can go the less expensive and less weight way but that won't make a lot of sense while having to spend the night on-board cuz the battery won't crank. I don't think one more battery is that big of a deal.

Thanks!
