Battery question

Being a first time boat owner, I'm a bit confused as to how long should the battery last with the engine off but, let's say, a stereo on. I have a 2 battery set up with selector switch. I see people all the time with their stereos on while anchored on a beach. I can't leave the stereo or anything else on for more than 10 minutes before the battery fails and the second battery needs to be switched on. They'll recharge just fine after the engine turns on again. It just seems that if I leave the stereo or the fishfinder on for a few minutes it will deplete the battery. Is this normal or should I call the dealer?

Thanks!

Re: Battery question

If your battery dies that fast you need to change it, take the other one and have it tested although it sounds like it is the good one. You should be able to play the stereo most of the day and still crank up and go home.

Re: Battery question

Thanks. The boat is basically brand new, I've just had it for a bot over 30 days, so the batteries should be brand new. I guess a call to the dealer is in order. It seemed stranger that I could not leave the stereo on for more than a few minutes.

Re: Battery question

That is what I would do, batteries do go bad sometimes, even new ones. If the boat is a left over model the battery could have died from not being used.
