Has anyone heard of the CoolCurrents battery powered marine air conditioner? They have a Web site at coolcurrents.net, but I wonder if anyone here has seen one in person, or read anything about it elsewhere (such as a review, etc.).

Re: Battery powered air conditioner

Sorry, never seen one till the website. It appears that its a waterpump that pulls water from a several feet below the surface and passes it through a heat exchanger (radiator). It has 2 fans which pass the air through the exchanger and blow chilled air.
Kind of a neat idea if you spend alot of time on the h20. Probably wouldn't work well if boat up to speed, as the pickup tube would rise......
Just a thought....

Re: Battery powered air conditioner

I spoke with the manufacturers of this unique device Feb 2001 at the Miami boat show. It really looks like a great product that does what it says. You can't use the product other than when sitting still. I was, however, unimpressed by the final retail price tag. In looking at the simplicity of the unit, it looks like you could spend 1/3 the price and just buy the components yourself and have a fun weekend project. They may have changed prices since I spoke with them. (Update since first post) I went to their web site and saw that they have reduced prices by 1/2. It still is a spendy unit but one that I WOULD use if I had the money and was on Lake Powell or simular. Hope this helped.
