Battery not charging

I have no output out of the stator to charge the battery and the 2 yellow wires going to the rectifier have been hot as the insulation has been melted.I am going to replace the stator and rectifier for that reason plus a couple of stator resistance measurements are incorrect.Does anyone know if having no output to charge the battery will have any affect on how the engine runs or anything else other than a dead battery?

Re: Battery not charging

If the battery gets low enough on charge when running, as it is your only power source right now, you could expect a weak spark and poor running conditions and eventually the motor could quit altogether. Carry a spare battery until you get it fixed. Most times you can run a long time on just the battery, though. That's with no accessories going like bilge pumps, radio, Ect.

Re: Battery not charging

I had batter charging problems. It turned out to be bad connectors at the batter. The weird thing was that it would have a good enough connection to turn over the motor, but the voltage was always low per my sonar unit. I put new connectors on the battery cables and I get a good charging voltage. I would have never thought that enough connection to turn over the motor would not be enough connection to charge the batteries.
