Hello all I have a 19 foot center console I was thinking of relocating the battery under the center console. Do I have to worry about the additional vibrations on the battery

Re: Battery location

You might consider a bit thicker battery cables, due to the longer distance (and the associated resistance). One size larger cables should be OK.

Of course you do. One of the reasons your batteries are located at the stern. Your battery will not last as long mounted forward. You have to decide if its worth it for them to not last as long. So what is the reason you are moving them forward?

Not the pounding like you get in a boat. Cars have springs and shocks, and are usually run on improved roads.

On battery selection, OTR truck batteries are build tough because those babies take a beating too.

Re: Battery location

The reason I wanted to move it forward is there is a small area in rear where battery was kept that shared the fuel line I already routed the fuel line out of there. abut its small and hard to get in there . I want to put a battery shut off switch and would be more convenient under console. So I decided to leave battery where it is and route pos wire uo to console and back and put shut off switch in console its about twelve feet and I plan on using 2 gauge

Re: Battery location

What gauge are the cables you currently have? How long are the current cables? What engine/drive/outboard do you have?

Not sure on existing gauge they are Suzuki brand that go to outboard. Its a 140hp Suzuki outboard and the cables pos and neg together are about 4 feet from motor to where the hook to battery

Seems like there must be somewhere back by the battery that you could install the shutoff. This sounds like a ton of work for no reason. And 2 guage is barely sufficient for a normal short battery cable, at a 24 ft run I would be looking at 1/0 or 2/0
