battery isolator

I am considering installing a 2 bank battery isolator. My question is where to attach the main feed wire. Do I disconnect the existing wire at the alternator term, or disconnect and splice at the starter lug. I would think the connection at the starter lug provides elec to all of the component's since it is essencently connected to the battery, and the hook up should be at the alt. Your thoughts please.......

You don`t say what you have ,but this if how most are done.remove output lead from alt and insulate it.,run a wire from alt. to "common/alt" lug of isolator.post "A" or "1" goes to one battery, "B" or "2" goes to the other battery.
