I have a everstart trolling battery from Wal Mart and it got knocked over in the garage and lost alot of the acid. I filled it with distilled water and have been charging it for almost 2 days... The battery is warm but the indicator on the charger has not gone past the 6 hour mark (six hours to go /about 1/2 charge)

Just seems like it's not charging. Could I have lost to much acid and it wont mix with the water now? I took the caps off and it was bubbling a little inside

You can replace the electrolyte. Comes in a powder, add distilled water, and pour it in. Or ask the manf for the strength (%) of the sulfuric acid used and make your own. The info is probably on the web if you want to Google for it. You will need to discard the diluted acid that is in there.

Ya.. gota agree with ibnfshn, you may be able to bring it back to life, but having had problems with everstart batteries I HATE THEM!!!(does this make me a bigot?) Kinda like the way Bondo hates Bayliners. You probably lost some of the electrolite, and won't be able to get it up to full charge again.Good alternative might be a trojan (battery, not condom).

Jim

Check if WallyWorld will sell you the electrolyte, Bruno.

Many batteries are shipped dry with the electrolyte in a plastic bottle.

Everstart are excellent batteries. Any battery will need help if you dump the acid out of it.

If battery is not too old I would first replace the acid and fully charge the check the specific gravity. However if it is over 5 years old it might be a good time to replace it. How long has it been low on acid? Were the plates uncovered for a long time like over winter?
