I've got a 1967 Johnson 60hp v4 with battery ignition. What should my setting on my tachometer be. I've been told that you count the number of poles and divide by 2 to get the proper number setting, but is this correct for a battery ignition. When I set it on 6 it shows rpm's very low but when I go with 4, the number of cylinders I get what sounds audibaly like a more accurate reading. About 2500 at 27mph with it set on 6 and about 4000 at 27mph when it's set on 4. This engine should WOT at around 4500. Haven't de-carbed the engine yet but plan on doing that this afternoon. I've done this to my truck engine a few times and it always makes a noticable difference. Hope it lets me get those last 500 rpm it looks like I need and gats rid of that low speed rough running.
