Hi,

I was wondering what would be suitable for a starter battery for a 25 HP Honda. It would also need to run my fish finder.

The manual recommends a 12V-70AH marine cranking battery. How does 70 amps per hour convert to a car cranking amp or marine cranking amp?

Thanks.

JimHal,

One and the same.

I would look into one of the dual purpose (cranking/deep cycle) batteries now available.

Just make sure the cranking side of the battery meets your minimum.

That's what I need to know.

I can't find a battery that refers to 70AH. They are always listed as 600 cold cranking amps for example.

If my suggested battery is 70AH how many cranking amps does that convert to?

a 70 amp-hour rated battery is not much bigger than a motorcycle battery, it's a shame, but you have to do some diiging and seaching to get that spec.

I would go with anyone's (the best price in your area) deep cycle/cranking marine battery that is size 24, or even size 27, if you have the room.

I used a size 24 for several years with a 1995 Honda 25, and it ran a trolling motor and electronics too.

350 CCA would do it. But I would go a little higher. Maybe 400-500 CCA or so to be on the safe side.

Might take a look at this:

web page

Toward the bottom of the page..
