Can I get away with using a garden tractor battery (12v) to power my fish finder? It is a low end Eagle model...nothing fancy. I am just trying to save space and expense when replacing the deep cycle marine battery I have been using.

Re: battery for fish finder

Your engine should be charging your battery while the engine is running.Just hook your fish finder straight to your main battery with a fuseable link in the posotive lead close to the battery.
The fish finder doesnt not draw enough amps to kill your battery in any reasonable amount of time while the engine is not running.Once you start your engine it will recharge any loss caused by the fish finder.

If your battery is dying with the engine off just by using the fish finder it is time for a new battery.

Hi, CWY.

I assume that you have a rope start engine and no battery.

You would be a lot better off using 2 6v lantern batterys in one of Lowrance's battery packs.

Hi Cwy,

I am running my Lowrance unit on 2 6v lantern batteries, no problems to date, and the life span is fine.
