Hi guys.. long time no problems...

I have just redone my Bayliner capri, 16'. New transom, seats, carpet... the works. I just installed everything, now to the engine wiring for hood up... now I got problems!!!

I have a dead short somewhere, but I'm not an electrician..

With "ALL" wires NOT contected to the battery, just the possitive, I hook a test light to the negative post, and touch the positive at the cylinoid, it goes on. I removed all the wires from the distribution strip (ie: start, magneto, tach, battery, heat...etc.) and there's power from the opposite side. I check on the opposite side of the starter cylinoid and lites up. I check at the starter itself and lites. I removed the other two "side" wires from the cylinoid and the lite still lites while touching "any" part of the engine..

Should the "hot" wire go through the cylinoid even if it's not running?

I haven't run this since last year, due to rebuilding... could the cylinoid possibly be bad... or... Thanks, for helping.

Jerry

Yes, you will have 12vdc through to solenoid. The solenoid is just a coil of wire.

c/6

Hooty
