battery charging

I have a battery for starting my 25 hp johnson, and a brand new interstate deep cycle for my trolling motor. I have a 10/2 amp charger, but I don't believe it's an automatic shutoff. Should I buy a charger that automatically shuts off when the battery is completly charged instead of using one that will just decrease it's amperage as the charge goes in? I don't mind keeping a charger on them when I'm not using them, but I don't want to fry them, even with a 'trickle charge" if they are on the charger for up to a month at a time.<br />Thanks
