I have a eveready (Walmart) Marine/RV Battery Charger. after charging my deep cycle batt (or any battery) for a little while the Negative clip gets really hot, almost to much to touch... Whats the deal with that.... The battery never really goes to Full charge either

Re: Battery Charger

First guess would be a bad connection from the wire to the clip. Most of these are crimped on, and if loose will cause heat. You also want to make sure that the clip has a good spring in it so that it clamps down tightly on the battery post. In general, any loose connection carrying current will heat up.

Also have your battery load tested. At one time I tried every battery charger Walmart carried. None of them were any good. I wound up with a sears charger and never had any problems with it. I've since gone to an on board charger. They are by far the best way to go.

Re: Battery Charger

Does the "Onboad Charger" have to plugged in when you get home still or does the motor charge it ? I am assuming you just run a extension cord out to the boat, I would just hate to have stuff ripped off!

Re: Battery Charger

On Board chargers plug in at home, they are permanently mounted in the boat & permanently connected to the batts. All you need to do is plug them in when you get home. They are waterproof & 'smart'.
