Battery cables were hooked up backwards now tilt/trim won't work

Ok, I made a huge mistake and attached the battery cables backwards. I pushed the button to lower my outboard and I heard a faint sound, then nothing. Then I discovered my mistake. I hooked the cables up correctly and now I get nothing when I try to raise or lower the motor. I would appreciate any advice you all could give me. MY motor is a 1977 Evinrude 115 (model #115793s). This is my first boat and I haven't even had it on the water yet :(

I have an outing planned for Tuesday July 6th and am hoping I can get this problem fixed before then. If not, can this motor be manually raised and lowered? Again, I appreciate any help you all could provide.

Thanks!

Methinks you'd be more likely to get an answer if you post this in "Johnson/Evinrude Ooutboard" section.
