Re: battery cable

If you want to avoid any problems in the future, don't skimp on the battery cables. 6 gauge is what they normally come with. You can go to a thicker gauge, but I wouldn't go to anything less than 6 gauge. 8 gauge is thinner. I replaced mine with 2 gauge, but I had to enlarge the battery cable hole in the cowling to get the thicker cable through.

A lot of those booster cables are made in foreign countries. Not very expensive, but not very good quality and questionable if they really are as thick as they say. If you can find some regular pre-made marine or possible automotive battery cables with the right ends on them, That's what I would use.

Go here to get your cables. They will make them up for you with whatever ends you want and free shipping.

Re: battery cable

If the boat is never gonna see salt water you can make your own. If it is going anywhere near salt and you are not familiar with the process then bruceb58 suggestion I will second.

Re: battery cable

They came with a #4 cable.
My Merc 225 only had #4 cable too.
If the starters in good shape and the connections are good?? That's all your gonna need.
Plus the #2 or #0 is not gonna fit through the front of the cowl.
Just make sure that it's at least that and the connections are tight.
When you buy anything that's pre-made make sure the ends are solid copper.
They're selling some real shiny new chrome covered pieces of s h i. You can fill in the last letter.
A booster cable of 8ga is a piece of junk too.
They will pass some current but will actually drain/draw more amps than it really helps deliver.

Re: battery cable

Ditto bruce58's suggestion.

genuinedealz has the marine quality materials and will assemble correctly to your specifications.

4 AWG is not easy to work with unless you have the correct tools without which all you end with is a mess.
