I need to replace my house batteries. I have 2 Trojan dual purpose batteries but added an AC inverter last year a want to get something that will let me run my 700 watt microwave without killing the batteries. Thanks for the advice.

Re: Battery Brands

Brand name is probably the last factor to consider in your application. "Capacity" (Amp/Hrs) is what you are after. The more the better. When you figure out the total electrical load you are running from the inverter, that will determine how big and how many batteries you actually need. Then it's a matter of determining which brand you want. Every manufacturer has an xxx AH battery. Some just have a longer life expectancy (in terms of years of use -- not hours before flat) than others. You then need to have a suitable charging system (shore power or engine generator) to keep that battery bank charged.

Keep in mind, a micro with 700 watts of cooking power will draw ~1200 watts of energy from a 120v outlet.
That translates to 10 amps at 120v,
which is 100 amps at 12v

If you don't understand what Wire2 is saying, just don't plan on making a four course dinner with the microwave, or using an electric heater to heat the cabin overnight. Neither will be successful unless you have a gosh awful sized battery bank.
