I have heard both sides about these onboard charging system. Does any one really know how good these things work??
My thought is that charging your trolling motor battery with your gas motor, (by way of these onboard chargers) makes good sence. Can anybody shed some light??

Re: batterry charger

Either you or I am missing something, I use a onboard charger it’s the same as any other standard charger except it’s water and shock proof and permanently installed in my boat when I get home from fishing all I do is plug it in. As far as charging with the gas motor I don’t think your could run your engine enough to keep a good charge. I use 2 batteries on my trolling motor and it takes a 12 amp charger quite a few hours to charge them back up after use.

trom,

Just got my boat out of winter storage - it sat with an onboard charger plugged in for 5 months. The charger turned itself on and off as needed and both trolling motor batteries are in top charge. After a day of fishing it's a darned sight easier to plug the onboard in than to hook up a regular charger.

Re: batterry charger

At the suggestion of some folks on this site, I purchased an on board charger and LOVE IT! :)

What a simple great way to keep my batteries charged and ready for the next trip. NO more over charging!
