Good morning. Both batteries fully charged, perko switch set-up, no volts showing on meter and obviously won't start and tilt/trim doesn't work. Need help please!

Is there a fuse somewhere in the perko set-up that may be out? Or is there something else I need to be checking for?

1995 Robalo 1820 CC with a 1995 Mariner 150hp 2.0 litre outboard.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Batteries fully charged yet no volts and no power

The switch has no fuse or breaker inside it. Those will be at the positive post of each battery. You need to use a hand held voltmeter to follow the voltage from the battery, to the switch (BAT 1 and BAT 2 terminals). Then the COM terminal with the switch on BAT 1, then on BAT 2 and then on BOTH. From there you should have two circuits. 1) a circuit for the fuse panel comes from the COM terminal on the switch. The fuse panel branches out that circuit to all of the accessories. 2) A large battery cable goes to the engine. The engine harness then powers the engine related circuits and the gauges. Since nothing works, you either have:
1) Bad ground connection at either or both batteries.
2) The negative terminals on both batteries must be connected together either at the batteries or at the engine.
3) Bad Positive cable connections on the switch.
4) Bad COM terminal connections
5) Bad positive or negative connections at the engine.
6) Incorrect switch wiring.

Re: Batteries fully charged yet no volts and no power

It would help to know if you purchased the boat with this problem, if it started when you did some work on it, or if it was working fine one day and not the next. Also, a singlr battery or two.

Regardless, I'll add to the possibilites in the previous post:

7) Defective battery switch

BTW: "Perko" is a brand, not type of battery switch. There are a few different types, depending on the number of batteries, application, etc.

Also check if your battery cables are 1 piece or extended.
if your battery cable length was extended at some point take a look at the joints connections.
you cld have oxidic-corrodified-ghosts right there ... :D:D:D

Ground your multimeter to the battery negative terminal, then follow the wiring from the positive terminal along the cable(s) testing before and after each component (joins, switches, starter, ignition etc) when you get volts on one side of a component and not another it would tend to point to that piece of the system being at fault. (remember to have the key on when checking the ignition)
