Under the cover are little plastic doohickys that slide on a pin. Slide them out to put the brake on. You can slide only one or two if you want, or all if you need. All slid in gives you more freespool action. I see it is a five to one ratio. I have a five to one that justs seems to slow for me.

^^what flathead said. Also, I always thought that you have to set them in pair. Whatever position one of the brake is in, the one opposite of it have to be the same. If 12 o'clock is on then 6 o'clock have to be on too.

Thanks guys for your help, I actually talk to bass pro shops rod and reel repair today and they said the same thing about the reel, I'm going to use it for crank bates, just anther reel to keep on the boat ready to toss a bait reel quick.
