I was wondering what the base rpm in neutral is for a 40 HP honda, and whether adjusting the base idle screw has any effect on parts such as the carburettor balancing.

Also what effect does a low idle rpm have on the running / starting of these Hondas. I currently have a little Honda tacho that clips onto a sdpark plug lead. It ias reading 800 rpm in gear and about 900 in neutral.

Re: Base RPM for Honda 40

The spec on the BF40A is 900-1000rpm in neutral. As long as you only adjust the idle screw on the number 3 carb it will have no affect on the pilot screw adjustment or the carburetor synchronization.
