Wondering if anyone can comment on the best type of boat can handle the "Chop" that always seems to permeate the waters of Barnegat Bay each weekend off the NJ shore.

I've owned a small bowrider (17') for a couple of years, which didn't fare too well, then a 21' deckboat (with its 18 degree deadrise) that was almost even worse, and I finally went up to a 25' bowrider (21 degree deadrise) which has been more than serviceable for the past three seasons.

But I still wonder - what type of hull is best? What deadrise? What type of boat - center console, cruiser, or other? I am thinking of upgrading to an even larger express cruiser (27 feet) and am wondering about others experiences out on that bay, for as smooth a ride as possible... Thanks

Basically, the larger the deadrise angle, the smoother the ride will be because the boat cuts through the waves vs riding over them like a small deadrise hull does.

The larger the deadrise angle, the more power it takes to keep the boat up on plane, so the bigger the motor must be and the higher the operating cost.

Sounds like you want a large deadrise on your boat.
