I removed the lower assembly for a new 6hp 4 stoke Tohatsu 25" MFS6CSPROL in order to ship it back to Guam on the airplane with me (original shipping box was 7" to large).

Now I'm trying to reassemble. I've threaded the forward small steel rod back through the the brass clamp and the center drive shaft through the open plate. One of these two rods is making contact with something in the upper assembly when the to 3" before the two assemblies make contact. I tried rotating the propeller to but I don't think its a gear lineup issue.

(1) How do I get these to reconnect? (2) Are there any other reassembly concerns do I need to have before I start break in procedures. I plan on ordering a service manual bu hope to have this on my boat for the weekend.

Welcome to Iboats,

Are you having assembly isues with drive shaft trying to match powerhead ? if so, need to slightly lube drive shaft splines, push lower unit all the way up till stops, rotate fly wheel clockwise with hand slowly till snaps in. Bolt back LU.

Happy Boating

The shift rod, drive shaft, and water tube must all align. Odds are the drive shaft is missing the splines of the crank. Requires a "feel". Yes, it is good to grease the splines. Don't get any on the end of the shaft.
