Got a 1971 sea swirl with a mercruiser 140. Rewired almost everything. My post before ("orange spark while running"). Now am to the ignition coil. On it it says use with external resister. Now currently I have resister wire but think that it may be part of the problem. Am I ok using a sorerate ballast resister. What about resister wire that is in now. Just remove it? It is running right to ignition if not mistaken. Is it ok to cut and leave there? How do I wire in new ballast resister if ok?

Re: ballast resister vs. resister wire

The resistor wire or the ballast resistor does exactly the same thing. Just different shapes. Use one or the other, it doesn't matter which. Just use the one with the correct resistance per the manual.
