We have a 2004 Nissan 8 hp outboard engine...
It came with a 3.5 gallon tank.
Then we got a 6 gallon tank...
Both have this same problem...
It will not prime and make the ball hard...
When you do prime it, you can hear the air being drawn from the tank vent. The vent is open...

Both tanks are using the same fitting which came with the engine...

It allows it to run at a very slow troll
and there is no red light on but when you step the engine up it dies and the red light does come on at this time.
Sometimes it dies after a few hours of trolling with no apparent cause...
The red light is not on when we restart the engine.
You can get it restarted after a few attempts
but the ball never primes hard.

We have not replaced fuel lines or ball because we hear the air sucking sound from the tank?

We wonder if this is a fuel tank fitting causing this problem?

Thanks, fishingfolks

Re: BALL WILL NOT GET HARD/ AIR HEARD

Since the ball is not getting hard its a given that you have an airleak in the fuel system. Usually its a bad checkvalve inside the primebulb itself. But it could be a pinhole in the fuel line, bad fuel fitting or a bad fuel pump diaphragm.
