Ball Check in pump well question

This is my first time to rebuild a carb, Im working on a 2 bbl rochester. The manual states that you have to remove the ball check from the pump well. It looks like there is a ball in there that wont come out, I've tried soaking it in carb cleaner and blowing it out without any luck. It doesn't look like its supposed to move. But next to the ball there is a slot that looks to me like it would be more of a place for a ball check. Im just wondering if Im trying to remove the wrong thing or do I need to try harder to remove the lodged one, and whats a better way to do it? Thanks in advance.

Re: Ball Check in pump well question

If the last one to overhaul the carb got the wrong ball in the wrong place (there are 2 of different sizes and materials) it will be a ***** to get out. Try turning the body over and smacking it (don't damage it) on a flat surface. Other then that you will need to blow compressed air back through the passage under the little T pin (under the main venturi block). Good Luck.

Re: Ball Check in pump well question

This is tough, my manual says the ball check is for "2cc pump only" and mine is a 4cc. The boat hasn't really ran right since I bought it, but it looks like if that ball was there all along, it wouldn't have ran at all?

Might try heating the carb in an oven and use a can of keyboard cold air spray on the ball.. might shrink the ball to pop out.

Tried the oven and beating it, I got a dumber question now. What if I drilled a hole, under it and tapped it out? would there be any way to seal it back off? It has a little vatt under it.

You need a carb. With the amount of corrosion needed to hold that check ball in like that, you will never get the passages cleaned out. Carb cleaner just doesn't work to clean corrosion out of passages.
