Baitcasting, revisited

So I have decided to convert to what I believe is the "normal" way, or at least some version of normal when using the baitcaster. Now, I hold the rod/reel in my left hand, cupping the reel. With my right hand, I use my thumb to work the button and thumb the reel itself. I cast with both hands like this, then just reel with my right hand. This seems to work well, although I had one nasty birdnest while practicing, had to cut the line off. No more of my weird wrong way of doing it.

Drop that left elbow about 2", JJ, and you will have it down pat. :)

I was one with my rig today, only had one birdnest, easily recovered from, and did pretty decent on smallies and crappie.

Once you feel comfortable you will find yourself simply not even using your left hand around the reel when casting and it will become second nature. Simply keep your left hand in front of you at the position where your casting hand comes down and it will just work. Enjoy.
