hi,
im talking my brother (10) years old fishing with me tommorow in a rural pond near my house. he isnt used to using lures yet so we gonna use shiners.what is the best way to hook the to keep the alive longer, and which do u think the bass wil prefer. i have heard that if u hook them throught the eyes they will last longer and plus a bass hits the from the head first. also i have heard that if u hook them near the fin on the back they look like a live bait fish swimming and they will live longer that way.any suggestiong will be greatly appreciated.
thanx, tex

Re: bait fish

Tex....hooh them under their fin on their back. Make sure to go far enough under their fin to miss the spine. On a 3-5 inch shinner you can hook it almost 1/4 inch under their back fin. They will live forever like this. I would rig a bobber about 3 feet deep toss her out and hold on. If the water is too cold you might not get much action and have to go to a worm, slow retrieve.....good luck!

Re: bait fish

Everyone has thier own way, i prefer going through the mouth and out the nostril. works good for me regardless of size of bait fish.
