I just tralered my 22 ft MAKO to Ft lauderdale and went to Bimini. Seas 2 ft or less and no rain. Best time I have found to go is from July 15th to August 1st although fishing is slower the seas are usually calm that time of year. Found the fish were 11 miles north of N Bimini just before I left so couldn't get there. It was a great trip.

Baileys Boat,

I've been too, in 18 1/2' cuddy, but I don't fish; just like to explore. Was hoping to be inspired to go again by someone wanting to buddy boat over.

Where do you trailer from?
It's about 60 miles each way.
I can cruise at 30 mph on a good day.
My 115 Ficht gets about 5 1/2 mpg.

But it takes a little more planning than that. It can get ugly quickly in the Gulf Stream. The commercial traffic can be intimidating. Navigating skills need to up to the task of making often challenging Bahamian landfalls; there's rules about clearing Bahamian customs. Hull, mechanics and safety gear should be tiptop condition, spares are in order...

Especially if you go alone.
There is a group on the Boatered.com web site that does a group trip to Bimini a couple of times a year. Some folks trailer down from different areas of the country to make the trip over.
Yeah Nick, we can just launch at Lawson creek and head on down. I'm wanting to pull down to Columbia and take the Santee to Charleston and then maybe to Beaufort too.
drop me a line at lewjayjr@netscape.net
Nick,

Check out this website

A family went to the Bahamas and back from Wisconson, it is a journal with a lot of great information about there trip. It also talks about on what to expect on a trip like this. Its long reading but very interesting. The trip took 1 year(can be done alot faster, there top speed was 5 knots). They had a sailboat with a 10hp yammie, but I think you could do it in alot less if you diddnt have 4 people.

http://www.calumetdreams.com/index.html
