hmmm,
yesterday I bought a 1984 Merc 9.8 longshaft motor "6477105" that has been submerged, for $100. I had hoped to use parts such as the cover, electric start, transom mount and entire lower leg on my 1984 9.9 Mariner shortshaft, made in Japan, "682C051654" Now that I have the 2 motors side by side I can see they are entirely different motors and I doubt any of the parts I had hoped to salvage will fit. WTF? Is my Mariner actually a Yamaha? Would I have any success in going the other way and installing the powerhead from the Mariner into the Merc or am I talking apples/oranges here?
