Having an issue with my merc 3.0l o/i even starting. Starting was fine the other day, I left the key on and tried starting it a few hours later and it did nothing. Battery is fine, hyd pump works fine and all accessories. I by passed the solenoid by taking pliers to the single yellow wire on it to the positive red wires and the starter kicked over so I know the starter is fine. Checked the ignition fuse, its fine as well. Does this 100% mean my solenoid is gone, and if so, where is the best place to buy a new one?

Re: Bad Solenoid?

That test only proves the wiring makes it to the starter, you need to remove the small yel/red striped wire from the solenoid and apply +12V using a jumper from the battery. If the starter turns, the solenoid is good, if it dosent solenoid is bad.
Power flows from the key switch, thru the neutral safety in the control box to the slave solenoid.
