bad rotor please help

Well here goes I have a 1967 100hp johnson golden golden meteor
the rotor under the distributor cap keeps shorting out ( plenty of spark from coil none to plugs) any ideas on why it keeps happening its a 54thing DOLLAR part

Those rotors did have a history of shorting out to ground.

Its an after market actually a automotive coil from a chrysler the ignition is a chrysler as well

You may want to try an OEM coil. I don't know anything about the chrysler coils.

I suspect that the voltage from the coil is too high and is breaking down the rotor.

Thanks for the response guys
does anyone know the base putout of the original coil so I can see if the new coil is putting out to much
that would really be the only way to see if its to much
