Bad plug wires?

I have a mercury 18 XD that has always run top notch until late last fall. I t started running bad and mainly would not idle. If I touched one of the plug wires when it was running, it would give me a good zap. I took it in two times and they checked the timing, carbs etc, but would not change that wire. They said they rarely see one go bad. They did put some dialectric grease on the boots and it seems to have helped. Is this a short term fix? What do you think guys, should I replace the wires?

What did the plugs look like. The plug wires do go bad but I'd try a new plug first.<br />Capt Ron

Unless the wires are physically damaged, leave them be....just because you got a zap doesnt mean the wires are bad.....it means you got yer fingers were they didnt belong!
