Well I was installing two new sparkplugs on my 1955 5.5 H.P. johnson and I over tightened the spark plugs stripping the threads on the bottom sparkplug. Now The sparkplug hole has half the threads than it use to have. I was on ebay earlyer and I found A head that hasn't been installed on an egine and its clean and its for a 5.5 hp johnson. The head is read which means it is anywhere from 1956 to 1958 will this head fit my 1955 johnson and where can I get head gasket. Thanks Dan

Not counting the booboo, does it run okay? You could just put a helicoil in that plug/cylinder hole and call it good...just go lightly with the wrench next time.

Yes it runs just fine what is a helicoil though. Now if I don'y screw it on right it air escapes through the threads only a little though.

A heli-coil is a wire thread that replaces the stripped ones. You drill the hole to a specified size then retap with the supplied tap. Then you you screww in the new threads, break off the tang and you are good to go. I have used them to repair many thing, I also use them whenever I am using copper that needs to be threaded.
